Delivery From SeaCure Storage in NJ - Guidelines and Tips

Your delivery from Sea Cure Moving storage should be an exciting day—you are finally getting your belongings back and settling into your home.

A little planning beforehand can make your storage delivery safer, smoother and more efficient, while helping you avoid unexpected delays or additional costs.

Preparing for Delivery Day

1. Make Sure Your Home Is Ready for Delivery

New Build or Major Renovation? Make Sure Your Certificate of Occupancy (CO) Has Been Issued

If your belongings are in storage because of a renovation or new construction project that requires inspection, please make sure your Certificate of Occupancy (CO) has been issued by the township before scheduling your delivery.

A builder's estimated completion date is not necessarily the end of the process, and an inspection date does not guarantee that a CO will be issued the same day. Items may still need to be addressed on a punch list, inspectors may be delayed, or there may be a backlog in processing and filing the CO.

Requirements, leniency and exceptions can also differ from township to township.

For example, Long Beach Township (08008) has recently offered homeowners the option to sign an affidavit stating that they will not occupy the residence even though furniture has been permitted to be delivered. This can make it easier for household goods to be delivered because the homeowner accepts responsibility for complying with the township's occupancy restrictions.

By contrast, right next door in Stafford Township, including Beach Haven West (08050), this option has not been permitted to date, and personal belongings cannot be delivered until the CO has been issued.

Confirm Before You Schedule

Hoping the CO will be issued in time can become costly and may further delay your delivery.

  • It is much less expensive to confirm that the CO is in place than to have an inspector determine that your belongings cannot be present for the inspection and must be returned to storage.

  • A last-minute cancellation can also result in a longer wait for another delivery date, particularly during high-volume periods.

For example: If your delivery is scheduled for May 20, but you notify us on May 18 that the CO is not in place and the delivery must be postponed, May 30 may no longer be available. Your next available delivery date could be June 3.

Please consult with your contractor or builder well in advance and ask for a realistic timeline that includes the inspection and CO process—not simply the anticipated construction completion date.

Buying a Home? Consider Your Closing Date AND Time

If your belongings are coming out of Sea Cure storage following the purchase of a home, be sure to ask your realtor or closing professional about both the anticipated day AND time of closing.

A closing scheduled for a particular day does not necessarily mean you will have access to the home first thing that morning. Closing times can change, documents can be delayed, and keys may not be available until the transaction is complete.

Depending on your closing circumstances, the distance involved and the size of your shipment, it may be advisable to leave closing day as a stand-alone day and schedule your storage delivery for a later date.

Giving yourself a little extra time also creates an excellent opportunity to clean, paint or make minor updates while the home is empty and your furniture is not in the way.

Before selecting your delivery date from Sea Cure storage, confirm your anticipated closing schedule and access to the property with your realtor or closing professional.

Completing a Smaller Renovation or Home Improvement?

Not every renovation requires an inspection or Certificate of Occupancy, but you should still ask your contractor or service provider for a realistic date when the space will be ready for furniture—not simply the date the work will be completed.

For example, if you are having real hardwood floors refinished, the contractor's completion date may not be the date furniture can safely be placed back on the floors. Ask your flooring professional how long the finish needs to cure before furniture can be moved onto it.

The same consideration may apply to painting and other home improvement projects.

Ask when the space will be ready for normal use and furniture placement—not simply when the contractor expects to finish the work.

Building a little extra time into your schedule can help protect your newly completed work and prevent a last-minute cancellation or delay of your Sea Cure Moving storage delivery.

Moving to an apartment, condo or townhome?

COI Required? Check with your building, condominium, HOA or property manager to determine whether a Certificate of Insurance (COI) is required for your delivery. If so, please request a SAMPLE COI or the required Certificate Holder and Additional Insured to be listed. Please send that to your SeaCure Moving coordinator along with the building management contact name and email to forward.

Building Requirements: Confirm elevator reservations, loading dock access, delivery hours, parking restrictions or permits or other building requirements. The shipper is responsible for arranging for reasonable access. Please speak with your Sea Cure planner to coordinate.

2. Why Late Cancellations May Result in a Fee

Cancellations made within 14 business days of your scheduled delivery date may result in a warehouse handling/cancellation fee during high-volume periods.

Think of our warehouses a little like valet parking.

As your delivery date approaches, our warehouse team begins accessing your storage crates, locating overstuffed rack items and moving them forward. In some cases, your shipment may already be loaded onto a vehicle so it is staged and ready for delivery.

Your scheduled delivery also reserves a truck and crew that may no longer be available for another customer.

For that reason, a late cancellation involves more than simply changing a date on the calendar.

When you schedule your delivery from storage, our planner will advise you of the cancellation cutoff date so you know the last day you can make a change without a cancellation fee.

3. Consider Access at Your New Home

Please consider in advance whether your furniture will fit through the doors, hallways, stairways, turns and other access points at your new home or space.

If an item required special handling or a hoist at origin, it may require similar handling at destination—but the access points and conditions at the new property may be very different.  An item that came out of one home does not necessarily mean it can be safely carried into another.

SeaCure Moving crews are experienced professionals and often have a better eye for furniture clearance and access than the average person. Our Driver or Supervisor will evaluate the available access and determine whether an item can be moved safely using reasonable moving techniques.

SeaCure will not attempt a maneuver that places our employees at an unreasonable or avoidable risk of injury.

We also reserve the right to decline a maneuver when, in the professional judgment of the Driver/Supervisor and Sea Cure Moving, there is an unreasonable risk of damage to the furniture or property.

Occasionally, our crew may advise that a piece does not appear likely to fit, but the homeowner would still like to see an attempt made. When circumstances are reasonably safe, we are happy to work with you.

If the requested maneuver carries an increased risk of damage to the item or property, Sea Cure may require the homeowner/shipper to approve a Hold Harmless Release before an attempt is made.

A Hold Harmless Release does not require our crew to attempt something they determine to be unsafe. Employee safety always comes first.

Ultimately, differences in the size, design or access points of the destination home may prevent an item from being placed in the desired location. This is not the mover's fault. The mover did not buy the piece or the house.

Please consider unusually large furniture, tight stairways, narrow doors, balconies and pieces that previously required hoisting before delivery day.

If you anticipate a difficult access situation, contact Sea Cure Moving in advance. We look at access from the outside, but we do not always have the ability to see all access points inside, especially with new construction.

Photos, measurements or a conversation with our Planning Department may allow us to identify options and develop a plan before the delivery crew arrives.

4. Know Where You Want It to Go

Your Sea Cure storage delivery includes one-time placement of your furniture and goods.

If you are changing the layout of your home, try to have a general plan before delivery day. We understand that sometimes you need to see a piece in the room before deciding exactly where it looks best.

We are happy to shimmy something left or right, and we don't mind swapping a few things.

We simply ask that you have a reasonable plan in place so the crew isn't repeatedly moving the same furniture from room to room. This includes cartons and totes. Often the new space does not allow for the same volume of contents or the same arrangement in the previous space. Think about what cartons and totes have essentials you need and where you want the rest to be stacked. We must leave walkways and door ways accessible for your safety. While the crew is there be intentional on where you want excess cartons. You may not want them all in the lower level garage or basement if you need to carry them up later. Or you may want them there so you are not overwhelmed in your living space as you unpack.

Planning ahead also reduces unnecessary handling of your furniture—and less traffic for floors, walls and doorways.

TIP: Label Your Rooms

A little labeling can make delivery much easier.

The kitchen may be obvious, but when a home has multiple bedrooms or similar spaces, consider placing a simple sign on the door identifying each room—for example, “Office,” “Bedroom 2” or “Guest Room.”

Then, when you direct the crew to take something to “Bedroom 2,” everyone knows exactly where it belongs without having to stop and ask you repeatedly.

5. Tell Us About Special Areas of Concern

Home protection is standard with every Sea Cure Moving delivery, but storage deliveries frequently follow renovations, remodeling or new construction.

If there is something you're particularly concerned about, tell us.

Newly refinished hardwood floors? New white carpeting? Freshly painted walls? A delicate railing or newly installed fixture near the crew's path?

Let the Sea Cure office know in advance whenever possible, and point out special areas of concern to the Driver when the crew arrives.

The more we know about your home and your concerns, the better we can prepare the crew and protect the areas that matter most to you.

6. Avoid Scheduling Other Service Providers on Delivery Day

Whenever possible, avoid scheduling contractors or other service providers in the home on the same day as your delivery.

Having multiple crews working in the home at the same time can slow the delivery process, create safety hazards and friction between providers, make responsibility for damage difficult to determine, and result in additional costs.

Liability Exposure

When multiple service providers are working in the home at the same time, determining who caused damage can become difficult.

For example, the mover should not be held responsible for a scratch on your new floor after the cable installer pushes a metal toolbox across it while setting up the TV. At the same time, establishing responsibility with another provider can become more complicated when a moving crew is also carrying furniture and equipment throughout the home.

The simplest way to protect everyone—including you—is to avoid overlapping service providers whenever possible.

Safety, Friction & Access

  • Safety: Movers frequently carry large, heavy furniture that can partially obstruct their view of the floor and surrounding area. Painting tarps left lying on the floor, tools, cords, boxes and other contractors' equipment can create serious trip hazards.

  • Access: Moving day involves the entire house, not just one room at a time. Movers need clear access to driveways, entrances, hallways, stairways and individual rooms throughout the delivery.

  • Friction: Contractors may give pushback about moving their vehicles to allow the moving truck proper access. Crews may also be forced to stop and wait when other providers are repeatedly entering or exiting through access points, working in hallways, or occupying rooms where furniture needs to be placed.

Additional Cost

Most Sea Cure Moving local deliveries from storage are planned with the goal of providing the customer with a firm price. That price assumes our crew will have reasonable, unobstructed access to perform the delivery.

When our crew is delayed or requires additional labor because we must work around other service providers, additional charges may apply under the applicable tariff.

Waiting time and additional labor may be charged for each crew member in half-hour increments at current tariff rates.

Whenever possible, give your movers the house on delivery day.

Once the furniture is safely in place and the moving crew has finished, other service providers can work without competing for access—and without creating unnecessary questions about safety, delays or responsibility for damage.

Any exceptions should be discussed and coordinated with our planner in advance.

7. Ask in Advance if You Need Extra Help

Already have the movers there and need a little additional help? Ask us in advance.

Please let the Sea Cure office know before delivery if you would like the crew to perform additional services, such as:

  • Removing eligible debris

  • Taking an item to a neighbor's home

  • Moving or swapping appliances within the home

  • Relocating existing furniture or other items that were not part of the stored shipment

  • Assembling additional furniture or household items

  • Performing another small moving-related service while the crew is already on site

Furniture Reassembly vs. Additional Assembly

Basic reassembly of furniture that Sea Cure Moving disassembled as part of your move is included with your delivery.

If you have additional furniture or household items that were purchased separately and need assembly, please ask us in advance. Depending on the item and the time and labor involved, we can advise whether the assembly can reasonably be performed in conjunction with your delivery for an additional charge, should be scheduled for a separate day, or is better handled by an appropriate third-party service provider.

Because the crew is already at your home, the additional labor charge may be minimal in many cases.

More importantly, we need to know about additional services in advance whenever possible so the work can be approved, the crew can be properly prepared, and the service can be included on the Bill of Lading for insurance documentation purposes. SeaCure is not liable for any work not documented on a Bill of Lading.

Delivery Day

8. Have an Adult Present

You or an authorized consignee 18 years of age or older must be present on site to accept delivery.

Your Sea Cure Moving crew requires direction regarding where furniture, cartons and other household goods should be placed.

The shipper or authorized consignee is also responsible for accounting for the goods using the inventory or “bingo” sheet provided.

If you need third party management to accept your delivery, please advise SeaCure planning in advance to coordinate.

9. Have Your Final Delivery Payment Ready

Please be prepared to pay your final delivery charges at the time of delivery.

Accepted forms of payment include:

  • Certified funds, including a bank cashier's check or certified check payable to Sea Cure Moving

  • Cash

  • Credit card, subject to the applicable processor fee

Personal checks are not accepted at delivery.

Remember, this is the day we are giving all of your household goods back to you, so please have your final payment arrangements prepared.

10. Keep Delivery Day Safe

Sea Cure Moving must be provided with reasonable and safe access to your home and property.

Before and during delivery:

  • Secure pets in a safe room, crate or other area where they will not be underfoot or able to escape while exterior doors are open.

  • Keep children safely away from active work areas.

  • Clear interior walkways and entrances of boxes, tools, cords and other obstacles.

  • Keep driveways and exterior walkways clear so crews can safely use moving equipment and wheeled dollies.

  • Check stairs, railings and other access points, particularly following construction or renovation.

  • Tell Sea Cure in advance about unfinished access conditions. Missing railings, incomplete stairways, unpoured driveways or other unsafe conditions may prevent the crew from safely completing your delivery.

If you are unsure whether an access issue could affect your delivery, contact our Planning Department in advance.

We would much rather discuss the situation beforehand and determine your options than discover a safety issue after the truck and crew arrive.

11. It’s Delivery Day—Not Unpacking Day

We know you are excited to get settled, but please refrain from opening cartons or totes and beginning your own unpacking while the crew is actively delivering your shipment.

Unpacking during delivery creates additional paper, cartons and debris in pathways where movers are carrying large and heavy furniture. This can create a trip hazard and takes away valuable working space the crew needs to reassemble essentials such as beds and dresser mirrors.

It can also lead to something else we see happen: small items accidentally getting thrown away with the packing paper.

Your SeaCure crew will unpack applicable large carrier-packed articles, such as TVs, glass tops and crated items, and remove the related carrier packing debris.

Once active delivery is complete, you can begin unpacking your cartons at your own pace, or you can arrange for unpacking, put out, put away, and/or debris removal with SeaCure.

REMINDER: Check Packing Paper Before Throwing It Away

Be especially careful with remotes, plugs, cords and other small objects that can become hidden at the bottom of cartons or inside crumpled packing paper.

Check your crumpled paper and debris cartons carefully before anything goes into the trash.

Unless individual contents were specifically declared and inventoried as high-value articles, the mover's inventory accounts for the numbered carton as the article, not every individual item packed inside it.

Go slow. Check the paper. Don't accidentally throw away the little things.

EXCEPTION: If a Carton Appears Damaged

If you notice a carton with visible external damage at delivery, please point it out to the Driver before opening it.

You and the Driver can open the carton together, inspect the articles inside and document any exceptions to their condition.

Before the Crew Leaves

12. Inspect Your Articles

Please take the opportunity to inspect your furniture and household goods as they are delivered. With cartons, check the exterior condition.

If you notice an exception to the condition of an article, point it out to the Driver so it can be documented on the applicable warehouse receipt or Customer Service Report. You have 90 days in an intrastate move to report a cargo claim.

If you discover a concern or need to file a claim following delivery, please contact the Sea Cure Moving office by phone or message at 1-888-719-8006 or visit our Customer Support page for more information or to report a claim at seacuremove.com/claims/

TIP: Let Us Unpack and Inspect Your Carrier-Packed TV

Customers sometimes ask us to leave a carrier-packed television in its carton until the cable company, AV installer or another service provider arrives to mount or connect it.

We recommend allowing the Sea Cure crew to unpack and inspect it at delivery.

Today's television screens are increasingly large and delicate. There is also an important distinction between physical damage and mechanical or electronic function. Movers generally cannot assume responsibility for an unknown internal or mechanical condition when there is no evidence of physical damage.

Allow our crew to remove the TV from its carrier carton so its physical condition can be physically inspected. When practical, having it plugged in also allows you to check the screen and image condition while the delivery crew is still present.

There is another advantage: large TVs can be difficult for one person to remove properly from a carrier carton.

A third-party service provider who is unfamiliar with the packing method may twist or manipulate the television while trying to remove it—particularly when working alone—which can potentially cause internal or screen damage.

Let us take it out so you can inspect first.

13. Inspect Your Property — Complete a Final Walk-Through

Before the crew leaves, walk through the home with the Driver or Supervisor and verify the condition of the property together. Check floors, carpeting, walls, doorways, stairs, railings and other areas used during delivery.

If you see something that concerns you, report it to the Driver or Supervisor on the day of service so you can inspect and document the condition together.

Pre-Existing & Concealed Conditions

Sea Cure Moving takes reasonable precautions to protect your home but cannot be responsible for pre-existing, concealed, improperly installed or structurally deficient conditions that are exposed or fail during normal moving activity.

For example, a railing may appear secure but pull away because it was fastened only into drywall rather than appropriate structural support. Not every concealed property or construction condition can be identified through visual inspection.

Floor & Carpet Protection

Home protection is standard with Sea Cure Moving deliveries. We use appropriate floor coverings and runners based on the home and conditions.

Protective runners may occasionally lift a loose carpet fiber, similar to what can occur after a deep carpet cleaning. For crew safety, we do not use loose runners on stairways or disposable shoe covers while carrying furniture when they could create a slip or trip hazard. Express any concerns to planning in advance so a safe manageable plan is in place to address.

What if It Rains?

We generally continue working in manageable rain. Crews may divide into inside and outside teams and use appropriate floor protection to help minimize water, dirt and debris.

Work may be paused during torrential rain, lightning or other dangerous conditions. Property conditions also matter—a dirt or unfinished driveway during wet weather presents different challenges than a paved driveway and clear walkway.

Sea Cure is responsible for the elements within our reasonable control. We do our best to mitigate risk and mess while keeping your home, belongings and our crews safe.

Unlike cargo damage, property damage must be reported on the day of the move. Take the time to do your walk through and verify with the Driver.

After Your SeaCure Storage Delivery

14. Unpacking & Resetting

Once the crew leaves, take your time unpacking and settling into your new space. You don't have to do everything at once.

Start with the essentials you need first and work at a reasonable, methodical pace. As you unpack:

  • Fully flatten crumpled packing paper before discarding it. Remotes, cords, plugs, hardware and other small items can easily become wrapped in paper or hidden at the bottom of a carton.

  • Break down cartons as you empty them to keep your work area organized and reduce clutter and be sure nothing is left hidden.

  • Work room by room when possible rather than opening too many cartons at once.

  • Give yourself time to decide where things belong. Your new home may have very different closets, cabinets and storage space than your previous home.

Moving into a new space often requires more than simply putting everything back where it used to be. Sometimes what worked in your previous home won't make sense in the new one.

Need Help Resetting Your New Space?

If unpacking, organizing and figuring out where everything should go feels overwhelming, Sea Cure Moving can recommend trusted Professional Organizers who can take much of the burden and guesswork off your shoulders.

A Professional Organizer can help you unpack, organize closets and cabinets, determine the best use of your new storage space, and get your home reset quickly and efficiently. SeaCure often works WITH professional organizers for speedy execution. While we open, unwrap, lay out and remove debris - they configure and organize and put away.

Let us know if you'd like a recommendation or arrange service.

Recycle Your Cartons & Moving Materials

Finished unpacking? Your moving materials may still be useful, especially if purchased with us.

If your home is within Sea Cure Moving's usual service area, contact us to see whether we can schedule a one-time courtesy pickup of your used SeaCure moving cartons and packing paper. A fuel surcharge may apply for out of route scheduling.

For pickup:

  • Cartons must be empty and flattened.

  • Packing paper may be consolidated into cartons.

  • Do not mix household trash, food or other garbage with the cartons or packing paper.

Usable material may be donated for reuse or sent for recycling, so it is important that it remain free of household trash.

If you don't want to wait for a pickup, people frequently look for free moving cartons through neighborhood and community social media groups. Giving them to someone preparing for a move is another great way to keep usable cartons out of the waste stream.

15. SeaCure is Still Here After the Move

Delivery day may be the end of your storage stay, but it isn't the end of our service.

If you have any questions or come across anything you may need assistance with from the move, please let us know.
